A blog about Pitbull dogs, for Pit Bull owners, by an ex-Pitbull lover. Now I'm a Pitbull realist.
this makes my blood boil
ReplyDeleteGreat, an overweight pit bull walking a two year old on a retractable leash, wandering all over their neighbors' properties. And they wonder why the owners of these dogs are stereotyped as idiots.
ReplyDeleteUmmm I own a pitbull and I am far from an idiot! The owner was there and it could be any dog that anything could happen with. If it were a great dane would the owner be an idiot? People like you are the idiots!!!
DeleteLeast we not forget the child whose arm was ripped off while walking the family pit when the pit decided to go after a cat.

When did this happen? I really want to read that!
Sniffer, I'm sure it is on Craven's blog.
ReplyDeleteIts not people that own pitbulls that are stupid. Its you
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I buy the idea that Pitbulls have some violent aggressive traits breed into them. But if these traits have been bred in, wouldn't the correct response be to start breeding programs to remove these traits from pitbulls? What has been done can be undone, with time. Why not support breeders who aim to make pitbulls less agressive? And, also, severely punish those who breed/train for violence.
ReplyDeleteThe more enforcement you place on getting rid of all pitbulls, the more the criminals will just move to other breeds, such as Presa Canaria or Rottweiller, and start the same troubles again. Increase punishments for the bad breeders, the trainers, and those who fight dogs-whatever the breed is.
ReplyDeleteThe pitbull is one breed that has been abused by criminals and many innocent people have paid a price for it, but bsl legislation won't stop criminals from doing the same thing to other breeds
Too bad your theory has been proven wrong in real life. People don't move on to other breeds, or if they do, these breeds don't have the temperment issues pit bulls have so its not a problem. The trouble is not the human side of the leash, its the dogs' genetics. You don't need to train a pit bull to be aggressive or to fight, and breeding that in to a whole new breed would take too much time. The regular pit bull owner is not a dog fighter or criminal, and yet these people are the owners of the dogs that are causing problems. Don't believe me? Do a search for pit bull attacks - almost every one is owned as a pet that has never shown aggression before.
ReplyDeleteWhat should be done is that people who love pit bulls should get a hold on the breeding of these dogs, as someone else said. There are way too many of them, and people keep breeding more. Instead of wasting time posting about other breeds that has never happened, why not focus on the people actually responsible for the pit bulls we see. But that's never going to happen. People who love pit bulls love them for their aggressiveness - they don't want to breed it out of the dog. So they keep it and either lie to people and say the dogs are not aggressive, or they say all dogs are aggressive and its no big deal. Bottom line: nothing will change voluntarily because pit bull owners and breeders don't feel they are a problem. That leaves BSL as society's only option to force pit bull owners and breeders to be responsible or lose their ability to own dangerous animals.
For all those who don't like BSL keep this in mind - there would be no BSL if there were no pit bull attacks, loose pit bulls, shelters overcrowded with pit bulls. You want to stop BSL? Deal with the issues in your breed and you fellow owners. Don't expect us to EVER consider dangerous dogs as normal or acceptable.
Every time I come here I get a little upset but I always end up laughing at all of you. People use to fight Dobermans and Rottweilers and German Shepards but now you mainly see those dogs on the K9 Police Force. I’ve also seen Pit Bulls on the Police Force as narcotics dogs. So if the cops are supposed to protect and serve then why would they select Pit Bulls to be canine officers? I know people that own Pit Bulls but the love them because the dogs are clam and easy going, not all dogs are the same. I have been chased, charged and almost bitten by more Dalmatians, Chihuahuas, Jack Russells and Golden Retriever mixes than I care to mention. However I have never in my short lifetime been chased, charged or almost bitten by Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Boxes, Wolfdog hybrids, Akitas, Mastiffs or any other so called “dangerous breed” ever. Oh and I almost forgot; Newfoundlands are supposed to be sweet and gentle right? If so then why did this female Newffie violently attack a family’s two dogs nearly killing one?

Also here is the story of a girl who was attacked by a Poodle

I still think this blog is really the sour grapes case. I’m sympathetic to the person who started this blog because they owned a pit bull that had some problems and had to be put down. It is possible that the dog just didn’t get on well with the owner or didn’t get on so well with other dogs. The dog could have been sent to a rescue center where they train and re-evaluate dogs with these problems. However keep in mind that because of what this particular dog did doesn’t mean condemn the whole entire breed. Would you ban Newfoundlands and Poodles because of these attacks?
