Now how would you like to live next door to this one?
The owner is very sympathetic to people's feelings of being terrified of the breed, wouldn't ya say? I mean, I guess he knows 100% without a doubt that if a mother walking by with a baby in a stroller, his unleashed Pit Bully wouldn't do a thing. Or someone walking their pet on a leash.
And, for a breed that is known for it's ability to scale a 6 ft privacy fence or better, do ya really think that 4 ft chain link fence will contain that beast?

this dog probably great with kids and other dogs. just because he is a bull breed means nothing. mine is the same thing and is great
ReplyDeleteHe may be great w/ his own owner and their kids. Idk. The point is, when you have a dog that is known for attacking people and pets in public, you should do the right thing and keep them on a leash controlled at all times. You never know how a dog is giong to react to people it is not familiar with. Plus, not everybody likes dogs, and especially not Pit Bulls, so it just makes sense to respect other poeple and not make them have to fear for their life because you want to be an idiot! Plus, idk of one city that does not have leash laws anyways.
ReplyDeleteIf your going to have them, they should be leashed at all times!
whatever. i dount you even have a pitbull or you could not talk about them like that
ReplyDeletelooks like the pit nutters have discovered your blog!
ReplyDeleteI hope they soon wake up like I did.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise the breed they say they love so much will continue to suffer, and so will people.
I like the way the pit nutter says you must be lying about owning a pit bull. They always do that - just deny reality.

ReplyDeleteYes, because pit ownership is a cult and they all think the same way...
From experience, pit bull owners care little about their neighbors. If you try and talk to them about their dog, they threaten you. Had it happen twice. So then Animal Control gets involved, and they only hate you more because now they have to pay a fine for not being registered, as well as get told the same things I told them. And then they hide every time they see you because their "innocent" pit bull the neighborhood picked on attacked the greandchild and had to be put to sleep. Again, if this happens twice to me in one little neighborhood - and never makes the news - how often does it happen? Because friends and relatives have had similar experiences in their neighborhoods, too.

ReplyDeleteTurkey, I couldn't agree more.
But I don't think it really is their fault. I mean, when people get a Pit Bull, they turn to the Pit friendly websites just as I did, and they are being fed nothing but lies from them. They truly start believing everything they read.
And naturally when they go to C.D. and Dogsbite.org blog, they really get pissed off because they feel like their own personal dogs are under attack. I think that what they need is a new way of thinking. Let them be exposed to the truth for awhile by a Pit Bull owner and just maybe they will come around.
They feel threatened, that's all it is. They just need some time, they are very temperamental just like their favorite breed.
Well, they are like their favorite breed. People do gravitate to certain things for a reason. Most pit bull owners I know act like pit bulls. The swagger around and are nasty people, do as I say not as I do people, the kind of people who won't stand for anything to be said or done to them or their family member, but they have no problem doing far worse to you or your family. They really are the worse possible owners for these dogs. They are basically impulsive people, educated only as far as the information that fits their preconceived notions or the things they wish to believe, and advocacy groups play right into that. They are being used by these groups, and as a result look utterly ridiculous to the rest of us. Their short tempers and lack of reasoning power makes them easy to be used, and these groups use the emotional side of this issue to get them worked up. Can't tell you how often a polite online discussion with a pit bull owner has degraded into "you want to personally rip dogs from homes and kill them!" after being faced with facts they don't want to see. I once talked to a former pit bull owner who got it, and she said she was like all the rest until one day the unthinkable happened to her dog. Her belief was none of them will get it until it happens to them. I've found that to be true, with only a handful of exceptions.

Very well said. You are doing important work. I can't wait to see what comes of this.
Here's the problem with that: FIRST they got the pit bull, THEN they decided to do the research. It should be the other way around. Once the dog if home, there is an emotional attachment, especially when the dog was gotten out of sympathy or because the person has suffered abuse and identifies with the dog. Researching after the fact is not real research, it is reinforcing the decision already made by playing on the positives. No one wants to believe their darling puppy can kill the dog next door when it grows up. People tell themselves what they want to believe, they surround themselves with people that all say the same things so it must be true. Anyone can own a pit bull, call themselves a rescuer, and/or make a web page. Do these people have any credentials? Do they have anything to gain financially from what they are saying? Nutters never ask these questions, they just find what fits their beliefs and call it fact.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your blog. There really has to be some middle ground taken so that the kids, dogs and the rest of us can all be safe. I live in Seattle and the debate has just gotten caustic. I see breeds that are quite capable of doing damage off-leash and unresponsive to owners at least a few times a month. This can't work and it puts to shame all of the good work of responsible owners of pitbulls and other "dangerous" breeds (while some may contest that term - some dogs show up in stats more than others as a group). If the responsible pitbull owners can invest as much time into finding a solution for the irresponsible ones - a solution that protects us all - we'd really be off to a good start. Do you have any ideas for how to make that happen?
