Pit Bull Dog Owners WAKE UP!!!!!!!!

I hope that Pit Bull owners will read this and it will help them understand how regulations on Pit Bulls and their owners, can only help protect people and pets, and also the breed which they claim to love so much!

I keep up with Pit Bull attacks on people and animals. Naturally, since Pit Bulls were originally bred to fight other dogs (and are still being bred for that to this day!) They have it in their blood, and they do it often. It's just what they do!

I track Pit Bull attacks not only in the U.S., but worldwide. And let me tell you, it happens too often. And yes, WAY MORE FREQUENTLY than other breeds!
It really does not matter what the cause of these attacks are. I've heard them all! From not being properly socialized, being chained up, not being trained, being provoked, having a bad owner, being abused, irresponsible owners, blah blah blah! Enough with the excuses! The fact of the matter is, these dogs were bred to kill other dogs! And that is exactly what they are doing! When you couple that with the fact that they often end up in the hands of people that cannot control them, you have a catastrophe waiting to happen.
I am tired of hearing the stories of maulings, and deaths. I often wonder when people will say enough is enough and start putting restrictions on the dogs and their owners.
Don't get me wrong, I do not hate Pit Bulls. No, I hate the people that deny their dogs history, and what they were bred for, and their dog kills someone or something! It is unnaceptable!
I have A Pit Bull myself. She is a great pet to my family. She is great with my kids, and she gets along exceptionally with my other dog. That is because I know what she was bred to do, and she is NEVER given the chance to do it!
I am sure there are hundreds of thousands of people that could say the same thing about their Pit Bull. But they do not realize what these dogs were bred for, and they LET an accident happen.
The problem arises when you assume that just because that dog is fine with your own family and your own dogs, that it will be fine with everyone else and every other dog that it meets.
I know that my dog is a powerful and scary one. I comply with all of the rules on owning a dog in my city, and I go beyond. I have a tall privacy fence. My dog never goes outside off leash (except in my fenced in backyard where she is watched.) My dog is never left unattended in the backyard - EVER (because it only takes 2 minutes to dig a hole and she could get out.) I have insurance on my dog. I have a gate up at my front door so she cannot run out. I never leave people alone with my Pit Bull, she is spayed (because millions of Pit Bulls die in shelters every year.) I know that my Pit Bull is safe with everyone in MY house, but I would never trust her with people or pets outside of my home.
I am the minority.
I am one of the few people that thinks about what COULD happen before it happens, and prevents it from ever happening in the first place. Which is what regulations on these dogs also does, and that's why we need them!
So why, you ask, would someone that seems to be as intelligent as me regarding Pit Bulls, have a Pit Bull?
Well, long story short, I felt sorry for her and I rescued her. I also happen to love the look of Pit Bulls. I also was one of those that believed you can love the aggression out of them. Wrong! I have no doubt that under the right circumstances, my Pit Bull could & would kill another dog.
So, let's move on to learn about the different types of Pit Bull owners. First type Pit Bull owner gets a cute cuddly Pit Bull as a pup. They think if they raise it with smooches and bellyrubs, it will be like any other dog.
That is a huge mistake! Pit Bulls were bred to fight other dogs in the pit, and the dogs that were the most aggressive fighters and killers were regarded as top notch, and ALWAYS bred! That means that the cute lovey dovey Pit Bull you have, comes from a line of killers! Yes, even mine does!
This type of Pit Bull owner spews the "punish the deed - not the breed garbage".
I'm sorry but people are dying. I'd rather prevent the deed that we know is going to happen, then punish it after the fact... Your dogs dirtnap means absolutely nothing when a child is dead!
Attacks from dogs owned by this type of person usually happens because they think that since it was spoiled and given smoochie woochies, it could never be mean. So, they let the dog outside off leash as a common practice. Everything is fine until Fluffy walks by and the natural Pit Bull instinct to kill kicks in. That is why you hear the same sad story of how he had never done anything like this before.
Whenever I hear those stories it makes me think of the scene off of The Green Mile where Hal sais: "How many years you spend pissing on a toilet seat before someone told you to put it up?"
Yes, No Shit Asshole! You have a fighting breed. It's not a matter of ARE they going to attack, it's just a matter of WHEN!

The second type of Pit Bull owner is your wanna-be, I have something to prove, or I have something that needs to be protected type of owner.
This owner has the Pit Bull strictly for one reason.
a) to protect property
Or
b) to make people think he is tough
They aqquire a Pit Bull with the sole purpose of having an aggressive dog around.
When you take a dog that has such enormous strength, and will to please it's owner, plus it's natural tendency to be blood-thirsty, Pit Bulls are the perfect choice because they are natural born killers. They were bred to fight and kill so it really does not take much training at all. They learn quickly, and feed off of being praised by their master when they are aggressive. Nobody stands a chance when that pooch decides it's time for a snack.
So, why do we sit around and do nothing when these dogs are causing so much trouble in our communities?
Why do we continue to fail the innocent people that have been, or will be attacked by Pits?
As a Pit Bull owner that knows what these dogs are capable of, I am for Pit Bull specific laws.
And I also encourage other Pit Bull owners to stop singing about how much you love these dogs and let your actions speak by pushing for Pit Bull laws.
Most Pit Bull owners out there are probably as sick of the horror stories as I am. Bsl can help curb these incidences.
Alot of Pit Bull owners also claim to hate how these dogs are so horribly abused. Bsl will help stop that as well!
So stop preaching about how sweet your Pit Bull is, and step up to actually do something that will make a difference!
Stop buying Pit Bulls from the dogfighters that masquerade as a breeder of sweet family pets. Yeah right! More like legal Ak-47s!
Stop supporting people that are trying to stop bsl (bad rap, best friends, etc.) They are just as bad and are helping dogfighters to keep fighting their dogs! And also helping to keep innocent people and pets to get killed.
And, as I was once told, when it comes to animals -DO NOT TRUST ANYONE!
Do your research on the organization and you will likely find ties to puppy mills, dogfighting, and a long list of other illegal doings!
Last but not least, Pit Bull owners...
WAKE THE FUCK UP!

No matter how cute and well behaved you THINK your Pit Bull is - YOU HAVE A KILLER ON YOUR HANDS!
Do not allow your killer to get out and get into trouble! Do not deny your dogs fighting heritage, because when given the chance, they will fight! And all too often, a person ends up getting seriously hurt or killed trying to break up a dogfight. I am just telling you this so you will know what the truth is about your fighting dog. Chances are you have visited PitBulllovers, badrap, stopbsl, and others. They are feeding you lies and will tell you your little wiggle butt will be fine if you love them. It's all lies! You should be thanking me for telling you the truth, which is what the Pit Bull websites don't want you to know, until you have to find out the hard way and then it is too late.
Just take off your blinders and pay attention!
Bsl is the best thing that ever happened to this breed!

I know it seems like a hypocrite. I'm not though. Just because I have a Pit and know what to do with it, I could point you to 50 right now in my own neighborhood that are clueless to what they have. There dogs go out unleashed and roam, they terrorize kids and elderly, and an attack will happen one day it's just a matter of time! It is what it is.
I love my Pit Bull. I know what she could do if given the chance, so she does not get that chance.
The problem is that probably 99% of Pit owners do not understand the powerful animal that they are in control of and shit happens.
The other problem is that I am sick of seeing these "accidents" happen when they could be avoided if the breed was regulated.
I am seeing more and more everyday, because I have opened my eyes and realized what I have, and I know these dogs are something serious. They are not for the average pet owner!
Too many people and loved pets are dying and it just ain't worth it!
To other Pit Bull owners that are out there and will get mad about what I wrote, take a step back, and really think about what I've said. It is the truth and you should not deny it. If you love these dogs as I do, and you hate to see what has become of them, then you know that the only way to stop what is happening is bsl.
I hate it just as much as you do that it has come to this, but there is no other way around it. As long as they go unchecked, tragedies will continue to happen.

this problem is made worse by the idiots at badrap and best friends who chant these are "just dogs" and "it's all how you raise them".

  3. Oh thankyou for pointing that out! That is so true! I turned to both of those sites when I got mine. They do not tell the truth about what these dogs are like! They only tell you what they want you to hear because it benefits them!
They also try to make Pits look like victims, we all know the real victims are the innocent people and pets being killed!

    ReplyDelete
  4. i sincerely believe that pit bulls are victims too! they are what the psychopathic dogmen created them to be.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Yes that is true too.
But there are dogs of many different breeds that are victims of abuse, puppy mills, cruelty, animal testing, etc. And those breeds are not out killing in mass numbers. I feel sorry for the Pits and all dog breeds that suffer, but I feel more pain for the humans and pets that suffer at the jaws of Pit Bulls, and I'm sure most anyone will agree - people before animals.
But yes I know what your saying, they are the victim of what very sick people created them to be.

  6. I have often wondered where the pit bull owners like you are! I can totally understand rescuing a pit bull believing they're "just like any dog" because you were told that!

There must be many owners out there who now have a beloved pet that they've come to realize is not like any other dog.

    I hope they find you!

  7. Yes I know four owners right off the top of my head that got Pit Bulls thinking they were just like any other dog, and two of them have had dogs killed by their Pit, and the other two have to keep their Pits locked up in a kennel away from their kids and their other dogs.
I told the two that have human aggressive Pits that they should have them euthanized. One said she doesn't have the heart, she will just keep it locked up 24/7 (what a life, right?). The other says that is exactly why she has the dog, to protect all of their valuables in the backyard. Oh, and btw, true to the nutter style, she intentionally does not put tags on her dogs so that if they get out and attack, they cannot be traced back to her.

  9. Perhaps some anonymous calls to Animal Control are in order, especially if dogs are running loose in your neighborhood. If something does happen, at least there is a record of the dog being a problem.

I think it would be great if you would focus on telling the truth about all these pro-pit groups and rescues out there. Praise the good things they say, and use facts to disprove the lies and myths. Get those chat groups talking and discussing these things!

  10. wow..I am lost for words..I truelly believe that as human beings we have a job to do..we are the ones who domesticated dogs..we are the ones who trained them to kill..trained them to hunt and yet we take no responsability for it!I got a pit from a shelter for one reason..morons like the ppl who made this sight!I have my head on my shoulders and realise that there have been many many attacks on ppl and animals..I meet people all the time at the dog park who have stories of pit attacks BUT not every pit is a killer!because of us there are 11 million dogs being put down in america!!and america thinks its a first world country!and not once did i ever see any sympathy for this breed..ever!! so get off your fucking high horse and realise that these dogs are born with the specific purpose of dying a bloody painful death..to be killed in a fight..to be drowned in a bucket by their owners because they lost..or they die a lonely death in a shelter!!!where is your sympathy..do you think these dogs choose the shitty hand they are dealt..no!!and no child deserves to die..but what about your beloved american troops..who kill children in war (and ive had first hand stories of someone who shot through a child because he was ORDERED to) are they monsters??you are the reason i will always fight for pitbulls..I will strive to be an advocat for the breed and strive to keep my pit and all people and animals around her safe!animals are not evil..pitbulls are not evil..people are!so stop calling every pit a 'killer' and start trying to help the breed!once people stop being ignorant and start sympathising with the breed we can start closing in on the real problem..the back yard breeders..the shitty owners..the serious overpopulation problem..and the sadistic underground dog fights!!stand together against the real bad guys and stop stepping on an animal that we as people have truelly fucked over!

  11. To anon above me,
I do not think all Pit Bulls are killers.
But I think it is too risky to take a chance on which ones are or aren't. Out of the hundreds of Pits I have personally met, I'd say that half were human aggressive, and half were not. And 75% of those were dog aggressive. And I know too many Pits that were raised with all the tlc you could have given them, that will rip the throat out of any human if given a chance.
    These are your own words
"because of us there are 11 million dogs being put down in america!!and america thinks its a first world country!and not once did i ever see any sympathy for this breed..ever!! so get off your fucking high horse and realise that these dogs are born with the specific purpose of dying a bloody painful death..to be killed in a fight..to be drowned in a bucket by their owners because they lost..or they die a lonely death in a shelter."

Sounds like you know what is happening to this breed and also the people and pets that get killed or maimed by them.
Don't you think that bsl is their friend these days? I do!

  12. Anon is a typical nutter who takes their pit bull to a dog park. Its not a person you can reason with. If they were, they would know that there are hundreds of blogs, web sites, rescues all dedicated to pit bulls. There is Positive Pit Bull Press that only posts good media coverage of pits. There are countless chat rooms that ooze with sympathy and love for pit bulls. Has this pit bull owner missed all of these things? Must have, along with the warning on nearly every pit bul care site to NOT TAKE PITS TO DOG PARKS!! This is a prime example of an ignorant and irresponsible pit bull owner that advocates for the dogs, and is exactly the very last person pit bulls need advocating for them. If they really cared about pit bulls being born to die a horrible death, they would be interested in regulations that limit pit bull breeding to end that cycle of death. But instead, anon wastes time repeating the tired old line that people hate pit bulls and think they are all killers. People like anon don't listen, they just yell, because listening requires maturity and compromise, and it also means facing facts and admitting there is a problem. Anon can't do that, Quite frankly, I tired of people like anon and their empty, worthless "sympathy" for pits that prevents us from doing nothing but collect new statistics and euthanizing more pit bulls.

The part comparing pit bulls to soldiers was too low and degrading to comment on and speaks volumes of the kind of person this is.

  14. Anon 9:46 - When they move on to another breed and that breed is mauling and killing people and pets those should be regulated too. As long as there are people on this earth they will take advantage of things. And when those things end up savaging innocent people they need to be regulated. Frankly, I do not understand what is taking so long for lawmakers to realize this.
I have experience with Pits, the media did not give me a bad taste in my mouth about the breed -- the breed did!

  16. Game Dog Marty-

BSL for pit bulls have been around for 30 years, and I don't see any breed becoming the "next breed". Dog fighters are not using another breed for fighting because no other dog has been perfected over centuries for the task and can do as good a job. You need to stop listening to NCRC - Karen Delise lies and only puts forth information that supports her point of view. If you use common sense and do your own research, you will find the truth. So yes, I will push BSL. I want the right to walk down the street with my dog in peace and not get mauled. I am tired of seeing pit bulls abused and euthanized. I fear that not focusing on the problem (pit bulls) will lead to more regulations on all dogs, and basically the destruction of the pet dog as we know it as pit bulls are being bred so often and mixed with everything while all other breed populations are being reduced by responsible practices. Pit bull lovers have had decades to get a handle on the problems surrounding pit bulls. Things have only gotten progressively worse. Time's up.

  17. I'm finding your position to be pretty fair and even-handed. My Australian Heeler puppy was attacked by a loose running pit just 3 days ago. My dog was leashed, and standing in our own front yard, with my 11-year-old daughter holding the leash. I was in the house when the attack started, and ran outside at the noise (screaming, both human and dog) to find my daughter with a brutal dog fight AT HER FEET. If our puppy had been two months younger, and smaller, I know my daughter would have instinctively picked up our dog in her arms to protect it. I shudder to think....

I've owned a pit bull cross puppy years ago, and was one of those naive souls who thought I could snuggle and love the aggression out of it. I very shortly found out I was wrong. We had to get rid of the dog before the legal liabilities of owning her made a train-wreck of our lives. I have tried very hard to keep an open mind over the years and gather as much information as I could.

I have talked to several veterinarians, all of whom have given me the line, "It's all in how you treat the dog. If you treat it like any other dog, it will act like any other dog." How illogical is it for a scientist to say this? So the century-old debate between nature and nurture comes out to just nurture? I would love to see the research that supports that--on any species.

I've wondered since the attack if I took my Heeler in to see one of those same vets, if I said, "I don't want my purebred Heeler to show any herding behavior--therefore I'm going to treat it just like a Basset Hound. I'm going to train it like a Basset, and expect it to act like one, and I can reasonably expect to see it act like a scent hound, and show no herding behavior from this dog." I'm pretty sure any thinking vet would look at me as if I'd grown another head.

Keep speaking the truth--no one benefits when it's suppressed. Not dogs, and not people.

  20. Thanks for asking about our puppy--we are starting to call her our Harry Potter dog. You know, The Boy That Lived? Our Alice is The Dog That Lived. She is bruised and sore, but no major, lasting injuries. She's a tough, wiry little gal, I guess. That, and it helped that our neighbor came to our rescue with a shovel. He had to beat that pit 5 or 6 times over the head to get it off our dog!! Now, who WANTS that for a dog...any dog?!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Harry Potter dog, that's cute!
It makes me sad to see all of the stories of dogs and animals getting attacked by Pits. And it seems Pits are mostly the dog that people say they had to repeatedly hit it with a shovel or shoot it several times before it stopped. Yes, that would be the gameness trait. Not wanting to stop until the task is finished regardless of how much pain they are in. It is sad that things like this keep on happening, lawmakers are failing the public.

  22. You know, as I continue to search the Internet, I'm stunned at the lame, tired excuses I keep hearing from pit bull advocates. I am the former pit bull owner from above that had to put the dog down, and this is our pit bull story.

My husband and I were young, healthy, didn't have kids yet, and both grew up with lots of family pets, and lots of dogs. We were finally in a home where we could have a dog, and we couldn't wait to get one. We were (and still are) committed to reducing the stray population, and supporting local animal shelters, and neither of us felt the need to insist on a purebred dog--for the purpose of a family pet, we felt a mixed breed was great.

And here is one thing that pit bull advocates have on their side--pit bull puppies are cute! They really are! With their kinda smooshy noses and their little triangle ears, they can totally grab a dog lover's heart at a glance. The pit bull mix puppy that we adopted did that to us, I know. Plus, she was that gorgeous brindle color that pits and bulldogs and some of those related dogs share. We talked to our vet about the temperament issue, and got the same, tired, "It's how you treat them," line that I've heard so often since.

So when reasonably kind, educated, animal- loving people hear that, you know what we think? We think, "Well, gee, obviously we have no intentions of training this dog to fight, nor are we going to abuse it in any way, including the fact that we do not intend to keep this dog on a chain. We plan on getting it spayed, appropriately vaccinated and wormed, and we will commit to exercising it every day." And we lived in the wide open spaces of high desert country in New Mexico, so we weren't in a highly populated area, although, we of course did have neighbors with children and dogs. "We will make a concerted effort to obedience train this dog, and we will socialize it with other people and dogs." And we did.

Now, the next time some pit bull fancier says that it's irresponsible, stupid, cruel, yada yada yada owners that are responsible for attacks, I am here to say that I believe that lots of those owners are well-intentioned suckers just like we were. Seduced by a pretty face and platitudes, we had no idea what we were bringing into our house.

The year we owned Maddie was insane. We introduced her to new adults and children all the time, and we were never sure how she would react to an individual. Sometimes she was just widdle puddle of doggy wuv who licked and wiggled when she met people, and sometimes she would just LOOK at someone and give this terrific WOOF!! (And it was one loud, scary-ass bark) and we knew we had to be uber careful. The same thing happened with dogs. Some she could and did play with for hours, and some we knew she would've swallowed whole if we'd let her.

I believe that because she was a mixed breed that was quite obviously crossed with something far away from the pit bull gene pool, we got a lot more advanced warning of aggression than a lot of owners get. The day she got loose, did NOT come back when called, and proceeded to chase a very pregnant neighbor down the street until she ran and shut herself into the house, was the last day we owned her. It scared the shit out of me. As soon as I got hold of Maddie and got back to my house with her, I had screaming death threats on my answering machine from the pregnant lady's husband. And who could blame the man? Maddie was put to sleep after that, and yes, it broke my heart, but I'd rather have my heart broken at losing a dog, than be haunted by the memories of someone getting severely hurt because of my stubborn pride.

I know this is long and rambling, but I hoped that it might make some reasonable people think before wading into this mess by adopting one of these pups.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thank you for your story. I have always maintained that most dangerous pit bull owner is not the drug dealer or dog fighter that understands what he has, but the "reasonably kind, educated, animal- loving people" who was fed a very misleading story from the shelter or rescue promoting pit bulls. It is this situation that creates statistics and victims, for even the owner of such a dog becomes a victim to the lies they were told. I do not fault owners who were lied to, even though they should have researched and known better; I believe the entire situation we see with pit bulls today - both the attacks and the over population - was created by dishonest breed advocates, and they are still holding on to the lies despite all the evidence against them. And I do believe their stubborn pride has a lot to do with it.

To the other Anon whose dog was attacked: what happened to that pit and its owner? Any victims of pit bulls are encouraged to join us at the dogsbite.org message board, especially if they need support.

  24. To Jersey,
I am the anonymous poster who both owned the pit bull mix we had to put to sleep, as well as the owner of the Heeler who was attacked this week. And the pit that attacked her is in the custody of animal control right now. The unidentified owners have four more days to claim their dog, in which case animal control says I will be notified. If they don't claim the dog, the officer I talked to said the dog will be evaluated for human and dog aggression, and depending on results, could be put up for adoption. Yeah, I know, the insanity. But I plan on being there at this dog's "parole hearing" and pleading with these people to NOT make this animal available for adoption. I have no idea how I'm going to be received. I should also say, that although I don't live in a huge city, I do live in one that is very close to the border of Mexico, and the numbers of pits and the probability that they are bred and dispersed by criminals is astronomical.

    ReplyDelete
  25. "...the officer I talked to said the dog will be evaluated for human and dog aggression"

This is rather strange. After all, this PB has already had a reality test and shown itself to be dog aggressive. Even the designers of the artificial behavior tests admit they don't really reproduce real circumstances.

So I do think any PB that has attacked should be considered to have had his/her test -- and be judged accordingly.

  26. Against BSL-
Wow this sight makes me sick your are going off Stereotyping every dog and there owners if you would focus some of your Frustrations on maybe how to figure out how to get to the puppy mills or dog fighting rings then only then would i think your doing something positive. You are going on and on how your dog can kill well if you don't trust your dog you should get it evaluated. I REALLY see the Level of YOUR EDUCATION (Stop Making Excuses)when you are cursing on your blog this lets me know how Professional and informative this Crappy website really is I feel sorry for your IGNORANCE and i will contender to fight Against BSL

  27. You keep fighting for bsl anon, and I will continue to send lawmakers pictures of children these dogs have killed or permanantly disfigured.

Puppy mills and dogfighting are disgusting, and just because I am not blogging about them does not mean I like them. No I would rather blog about 'sweet family Pits' that are attacking, to show people like you that they are a problem and need to be regulated.

  28. I can NOT and will NOT argue that MOST of what you say is true, EXCEPT ONE things that I hear most saying ...... Yes pits should not be everyone's dog BUT THIS IS A PEOPLE PROBLEM.
People created the breed, taught them to be what they are and now can no longer handle what they have created. Regulations & new laws will not help unless they put the power to enforce them behind it.
And YES I AM A PIT BULL OWNER !!!

  29. I hope you choke on everyword you wrote. You are an ignorant Pit owner on the same line as drug dealers and underground breeder. I stopped reading after i spotted the first mistake "Naturally, since Pit Bulls were originally bred to fight other dogs.." yeah they were bred to fight BULLS hence the name BULL TERRIER . what a bunch of crap.. MORON

  30. You are right Gail. People did create these killing machines. One cannot deny the types of people that are most often attracted to this breed and since there is no way to weed out the good owners from the bad that is all the more reason for the need to regulate these powerful dogs, because when they do end up in the hands of bad owners, horrible things often happen.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Norma DePree, Yes I apologize, you did catch a mistake I made. You are right, FIRST Pits were bred for bull baiting which required a very strong, tenacious dog, and then when that was outlawed people started using them to kill other dogs in the pit. They vigorously trained them and taught them to to do nothing more than kill. The best fighters/killers were then repeatedly bred to produce even more killers, creating a breed that has a natural instinct to kill any dog embedded in it's brain, and usually any animal, and more increasingly people.
So when you say Bull Terrier, remember there is the word 'Pit' in front of that to make it American Pit Bull Terrier... Or, are you, like many other Pit Bull owners, just completely blocking out the breeds bad history because you think it makes your Pit Bull less dangerous?
And, do you think that because they were originally bred for bull baiting, that makes them any less dagerous? To me, it takes one dangerous ass dog to be so strong that it is created and bred to take on a 1,000 pound bull. And an equally dangerous dog to be created and bred to kill other dogs as sport. The fact still remains that these dogs were bred, whether it be bulls or dogs, to kill.

  32. Keep in mind that even though bull baiting has been illegal for a very long time, pit bulls still possess these instincts and attack, and sometimes kill, full grown horses in classic bull baiting style to this day.

  33. You don't make any points at all that would support an argument for BSL. According to BSL even YOUR well behaved, well raised, responsible dog should be taken from you, put down against your will, and you should be fined $500.

No one's saying they're not capable of killing humans. No one's saying you yourself aren't capable of it either. In fact we have a fundamental right to own weapons. That's because freedom implies responsibility. Your argument impedes my freedom because YOU think the dog that's in MY backyard effects YOU somehow. You don't know the circumstances under which I or other bull owners came to own their dogs.

You sound like a hypocrite for a reason.

  34. ENDBSL is using scare tactics and lying as the only way to make a point. BSL does not require people's pets to be removed from their homes and killed. BSL can be a simple as requiring muzzles, or MSN (Mandatory Spay Neuter). And clearly ENDBSL has not bothered to read this blog or they would know that Julie's dog is not well-behaved despite being well-raised in a loving home, its just steeped in pit bull genetics which cannot be trained or loved away (according to pit bull rescues). I'm glad ENDBSL understands that pits can kill humans, too bad ENDBSL misses the point that they do it for more often and present a much higher risk to people, and especially other animals, thatn the average dog. I'm also glad ENDBSL realizes that with freedom comes responsibility. Does ENDBSL think the majority of the people associated with pit bulls have acted responsible? The attacks, the overovercrowded shelters? A gun can be locked in a closet and never cause their neighbor a problem. Pit bulls climb fences and chase people down streets; they rush fences and doors at people merely minding their own business on a walk. Yes, ENDBSL, when we own dogs, the ownership of those dogs do impact our neighbors, and it is our responsibility to make that impact as little as possible by keeping them on leashes, picking up after them, getting them vacinated, and to keep them from being a nuisance or scaring people. The mere fact that you own a dog fighting dog puts all of your neighbors' pets at risk. Why do you think that is okay? I like most people chose dogs that would not frighten people and hopefully would not harm anyone if they accidently got loose. Pit bull owners have not given the rest of us the same courtesies.

  37. I'm sorry but I could not finish reading this post. The reason being this person has no clue what the history of the "Pit Bull" is. First they were bred to act as a helper to butchers. They kept the bulls in line and help the butcher move them to the slaughter. They were bred to have very strong jaws, have a very high tolerance for pain, and to never back down, fight to the death even. They would latch on to an unruly bulls nose and hold till the butcher could get it under control. Kinda a gruesome? But that is what they were bred for! NOT DOG FIGHTING. It was because they way that they sold these dogs, bull baiting, was made illegal that caused them to become dog fighters. Basically they would do the same thing to a dog that they would do to a bull, but with the same mind set they were bred for. However they had to be trained to fight like this since they were not bred to attack other dogs. The people did this because fighting two dogs used much less space then a dog and a bull. Since it was illegal this was just easier. The pit bull still uses the things it was bred for today. Just like a retriever fetches, a hound sniffs out things, a sheep dog herds, that is what they were bred for. The only problem is the pit bull was bred to have very very very STRONG voracious characteristics. This is why pit bull owners, like myself, must respect this dogs purpose. Not its history!
